In questa occasione,andremo ad approfondire uno dei crank piu' particolari della linea combat,lo Shallow Hawg.

Questo,si differenzia dalla maggior parte degli square bill,per la sua dimensione fat,che lo colloca in una fascia di crank specifica,ben distinta dalle altre.

La sua forma molto panciuta,e la sua grande paletta quadrata,gli donano un wobbling molto pronunciato,un fatore estremamente importante quando abbiamo necessita'di far notare la nostra hard bait al predatore.

Questo accade,in particolare in acqua sporca o velata,dove il bass fatica ad intercettare le nostre esche,in questo caso abbiamo tre fattori con cui giocare,che sono il colore,il nuoto ma soprattutto il suono.

Al suo interno il crank,presenta due grosse palle in tungsteno,che oltre ad aiutarci nel lancio,emettono un suono sordo spesso irresistibile al bass,che viene molte volte richiamato anche da grande distanza.

Io l'ho impiegato con costanza,in particolare nei mesi estivi,o quando avevo l'esigenza di lanciare l'esca(pitching)in punti ben precisi,infatti il suo peso di 19g ci consente lanci impeccabili,anche con forti raffiche di vento,cosa impossibile con i crank tradizionali.

Un altra sua peculiarita',estremamente importante per questa tipologia di artificiali,che ho riscontrato in questi anni di utilizzo,e' la sua estrema galleggiabilita',qualita'che gli permette di impigliarsi molto raramente contro gli ostacoli.

Sfruttando questa caratteristica,avremo modo di interrompere o rallentare il recupero ad ogni urto,facendolo emergere di quanto basta prima di ricominciare la nostra azione,questo ci dara' sicuramente piu' costanza e sicurezza durante il suo impiego.

Per questa tipologia di crank,vi consiglio di utilizzare una canna in fibra di vetro o misto fibra,che oltre ad aiutarvi a perdere meno pesci,vi permettera' di attutire le enormi vibrazioni che questo artificiale produce.

Io personalemte l'ho sempre usato con EG Ocelot,ma che sicuramente ben si adattera' con la nuova Orion Sky Sword in misto fibra.

On this occasion, we will take a closer look at one of the most distinctive cranks in the Combat line, the Shallow Hawg.

This one differs from most square bills in its fat size, which places it in a specific crank band, quite distinct from the others.

Its very pot-bellied shape and its large square bill give it a very pronounced wobbling, an extremely important factor when we need to get our hard bait noticed by the predator.

This is particularly the case in dirty or cloudy water, where the bass have difficulty intercepting our bait. In this case we have three factors to play with, which are colour, swimming and above all sound.

Inside the crankbait, there are two large tungsten balls, which as well as helping us to cast, emit a dull sound that is often irresistible to the bass, which is often attracted even from a great distance.

I have used it consistently, particularly in the summer months, or when I needed to pitch the bait in precise spots. Its weight of 19g allows us to cast impeccably, even in strong gusts of wind, which is impossible with traditional crankbaits.

Another extremely important feature for this type of lure that I have found over the years is its extreme buoyancy, a quality that allows it to very rarely get caught up in obstacles.

By taking advantage of this characteristic, we can interrupt or slow down the retrieve at every bump, making it rise just enough before resuming our action, which will certainly give us more consistency and safety during its use.

For this type of crankbait, I recommend using a fibreglass or mixed-fibre rod, which, as well as helping you to lose fewer fish, will allow you to dampen the enormous vibrations that this artificial produces.

I personally have always used it with the EG Ocelot, but it will certainly fit in well with the new Orion Sky Sword in mixed fibre.
